Annapolis, MD -- Anne Arundel County State's Attorney Wes Adams announced today that Selvin Federico Reyes, 33, of Glen Burnie was found guilty of First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Theft by Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Cathleen M. Vitale

"Mr. Reyes's brutal attack was a deeply traumatic experience for both his wife and her children," said Anne Arundel County State's Attorney Wes Adams. "I urge victims of domestic violence to seek refuge in law enforcement. We are prepared to fight for your right to a safe home."

On September 1, 2016, while engaging in a verbal argument with his wife, Reyes became violent and strangled the victim until she was on the brink of losing consciousness. He only released her when her son entered the room and began screaming for Reyes to stop.

Reyes attempted to prevent the victim from contacting 911 by grabbing her cell phone out of her hands and throwing it beyond reach.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 27, 2017.

Judge Cathleen M. Vitale presided over the case. Assistant State's Attorney Mary Setzer prosecuted the case on behalf of the citizens of Anne Arundel County.
